As one of the few remaining US laser crystal manufacturers, we were founded on a premise that this vital capability simply cannot become extinct in this country.
Our technology is based on the hydrothermal method of crystal growth. Through the discoveries of Dr. Joseph W. Kolis, Professor of Chemistry, Clemson University, Clemson, SC, and a co-founder of the Company, new and proprietary crystal growth stations and our expertise in chemical pathways provide us with the capability of growing the highest quality crystals for today's laser and detector technologies.
An internationally recognized chemist who began his crystal growth career at Bell Laboratories, Dr. Kolis has invented many new crystals using the hydrothermal technique, including crystals of significant importance to today's explosives and radiation detection efforts that cannot be grown by other available technologies. He has received numerous awards throughout his career including the National Science Foundation Award for Special Creativity and was an Alfred P. Sloan Fellow, is an active member of The American Chemical Society & various other professional societies and author of over 140 scientific publications.
